Construction of the new Minhou County Museum kicked off on Aug 11. The museum is another important cultural infrastructure project following the Minhou County Science and Technology Center, Minhou County Culture Center, Minhou County Mindu Folk Customs Park and Minhou Public Square.
Curator Zeng Jiang said the museum had amassed more than 4,000 cultural relics dating from the Neolithic Age to the Republic of China. The old museum was established at the Ganzhe Street Park in 1996. Covering only 380 square meters, it was unable to store more cultural relics so a new museum was needed.
Located in the eastern part of Road No 10, Ganzhe Street, the new museum covers an area of 17,200 sq m and a floor area of 15,750 sq m. With a total investment of 98 million yuan ($15.4 million), the museum is expected to be finished by the end of 2013. The four-story museum will consist of exhibition halls for urban planning, cultural relics and Minhou celebrities and offices.
