Fuzhou Wanda Cinema Group introduced the IMAX Giant Screen to Fuzhou, the first of its kind in Fujian province.

The giant IMAX screen is nearly three times larger than normal cinema screen. Since its introduction, many residents from Xiamen, Quanzhou and Zhangzhou have been gone to Fuzhou to experience the giant screen. Wanda Cinemas has rapidly become the province’s most frequented cinema.

The unprecedented boom of Wanda Cinemas is an epitome of the fast growing modern digital cinema industry in Fuzhou represented by 3D technology. According to a principal of Fuzhou Municipal Administration of Radio, Film and Television, in recent years, Fuzhou has actively attracted private capital to the city’s cinema industry. It strives to build quality cinemas by attracting a number of well-known enterprises including Wanda and Jinyi, introducing IMAX technology and equipment, constantly expanding the scale and adding the number of cinemas to complexes. Those efforts met the needs and demands of the audience.

With the spread of modern digital cinema, represented by 3D technology, the revenue of cinema box-offices in Fuzhou is continuing to rise. Statistics show that the city boasts 13 major cinema complexes, and 57 cinema screens. In 2010, the total revenue from cinema box-offices in Fuzhou exceeded 100 million yuan, to top the list in Fujian province. It is ranked 26th in the country. By the end of August, the revenues from six cinemas under the jurisdiction of Fuzhou have reached 75 million yuan.
