The project, which is being carried out totally for free, was initiated by the company after receiving complaints from some residents about substandard tap water quality, which was largely due to rusted-up water pipes.

The company aims to replace all galvanized water pipes with plastic ones. As of Aug 13, it has completed the upgrade in seven communities, using about 10,000 meters of new piping.

Community residents all had positive comments on the much-anticipated welfare project.

“It is in the nick of time. I called the company and reported my difficulties of getting tap water yesterday, and it sent workers to change the water pipes today,” said Li Ai’lin, a resident in the Longzhong Community.

Ms. Nian from the Jinxiang Community, which was one of the first few communities to have water pipes upgraded more than a month ago, said the use of tap water is much easier than before, and the water quality had improved a lot.

Five communities are still waiting for the replacement of water pipes, including those of Longzhong, Jiangzaikou, Xiaxin, Beicuo and Zhongpu Chengdu.
