Stephen Chemlany of Kenya wins Dalian Marathon

Stephen Chemlany of Kenya won the 2011 Dalian International Marathon Race for a second time, which was run on Sunday morning on the Golden Pebble Beach in the coastal city of Dalian. Chemlany ran the 42.2 kilometer race in 2 hours, 14 minutes and 15 seconds – several minutes short of the world's record of 2:08:07 set in 2009 by fellow Kenyan Jackson Kotut.

Gidena Gibremedhin Mirach of Ethiopia and Pius Muasa Mutuku of Kenya came in second and third place.

The National Marathon Championship also took place at the same time. Wu Shiwei from Shandong province won the men’s full-distance event with a time of 2:14:44 and and Wang Jiali from Hebei province was the first to cross the line of the women’s full-distance race with at time of 2:26:12.

A total of 13,158 contestants including 322 foreign runners from 27 countries and regions competed in the race which grants over one million yuan to the winner. Dalian International Marathon Race is one of the international standard Marathon races listed by the International Road Run Association and the Road Run Committee of Chinese Athletic Association. First run in 1987, the race has been held 24 times and is one of the oldest races in China.
