PetroChina Co increased crude-oil processing at its biggest refinery by 11 percent this year to meet rising fuel demand, an official at the plant said Thursday.
Refinery runs at the plant in Dalian climbed to 17.79 million metric tons, or 357,000 barrels a day, from 16.03 million tons in 2009, said the official, who declined to be identified because of company rules.
The Dalian plant will shut six major units next year for maintenance, said the official. Overall processing volume will drop to 1.5 million tons in January from 1.6 million tons this month, the official said, without elaborating.
The refinery's annual processing capacity was doubled to 20.5 million tons in August 2008 to meet additional fuel demand during the Beijing Olympics.
