(english.legalinfo.gov.cn) Updated : 2017-03-21

An optical shop in Zhengzhou of Northern China’s Henan province was closed after its illegal practices were exposed in a broadcast by CCTV-2 on March 15 in recognition of International Day for Consumer Rights and Interests.

In the television program, Zhengzhou-based K.S. Light Technology Co Ltd was shown to be involved in false diagnoses, advertising and sales practices. The optical shop, which is also the head office of the company, was closed after the exposure.

According to the investigation, the company was disqualified due to a lack of certification and had no medical background. Nevertheless it operated check-ups for several hundred primary schools in the cities of Zhengzhou, Kaifeng and Jiaozuo and required the students to fill in eyesight registration forms with their personal information.

The illegal practice was exposed in a CCTV special for the protection of consumer rights, an annual program to mark International Consumer Rights Day.
