4. Gun appraisal disputes arising from artificial guns

Over the last two years, some people were given penalty for sales of artificial guns which aroused general public’s heated discussion. A majority of legal experts think that the root cause for the disputes is that gun appraisal standards are not appropriate and they don’t have high applicability.

Currently, some new regulations have been added into the Public Security Administration Law, but they are not related to gun appraisal standards. Back to the “Two sessions” in 2016, Zhu Zheng, member of CPPCC pointed out that the tendency that artificial guns are used as real guns should be contained and the existing identification criterion need to be reviewed. And many media appealed that the Standing Committee of National People’s Congress should elaborate legislative interpretation to remove people’s panic over the damage of artificial guns.

In this case, gun appraisal standards can possibly be a hot topic. And relevant departments’ response to the development direction of gun appraisal standards will satisfy public sentiment.

5. The standardization of public security officer law enforcement activities

Influenced by the public security officers’ abnormal law enforcement activities, the general public is becoming increasingly concerned about the standardization of la enforcement behavior. From January this year, some controversial cases evoked people’s doubts on the ways of law enforcement of public security officers such as detention caused by insults to policemen on China’s social media wechat and Sina Weibo and wife of an official from Public security bureau slapped a traffic policeman for refusing drunken driving test. Even thought that this kind of controversy hasn’t been disseminated in widespread area, the similar coverage can possibly cause public outcry and shock to the positive reporting about law enforcement standardization.

6. Correction of major criminal mishandled cases

According to a judicial report released by China’s Supreme People’s Court, courts in China have redressed 11 major mishandled cases involving 17 people which hits a record in the history and they caused nationwide echoes. After the sentence announcement, the focus of attention shifts from “how to redress the cases” to “what to do after judgment”. Since that these freed “criminal suspects” are cut off from the society for a long time, the integration into social life is becoming an issue of common concern.

It’s obvious that the prevention, correction, compensation and accountability traceable system are not only focus of public opinion, but also the highlight and difficulty of political and legal work.

During the two sessions, the relevant departments will on the one hand introduce correction of mishandled cases as their work achievements, and timely respond to the questions of the general public.
