On Nov 23, an Industrial Development Forum of Zhongguancun Life Science Park took place in Beijing with a theme of "Leading innovation of the bio-pharmaceutical industry". Nearly 200 people from government, research institutes, universities, enterprises and industrial institutions attended the event.

To create an advanced economic structure Beijing in recent years has focused on its strategic positioning, optimized and adjusted its industrial structure, and resolved its non-capital functions. Throughout that process it has emphasized the development of the medical and health industry.

In September this year, the city released an Action Plan on Accelerating Beijing Medicine & Health Collaboration Innovation (2018-2020), which makes accelerating the construction of the Zhongguancun Life Science Park and its pilot professional incubator projects a top priority.

To better implement the action plan and mobilize more social resources, Zhongguancun Life Science Park invited top scientists, leaders of relevant government departments and representatives of key enterprises in the park to participate in the forum and discuss topics related to industrial development and park construction.

Liu Hang, deputy director of Zhongguancun Science Park, of which the Life Science Park is a part, pointed out that, with the most intensive medical resources in China, the Life Science Park is a leader in basic research and innovation in the biomedical field. At the forum, the Zhongguancun Life Science Park·CITIC Securities Biotechnology Economic Index (ZCBI) was released. The index is a comprehensive tool for characterizing the strength of biomedical enterprises in Zhongguancun. It reflects the changes in biotechnology economy through figures and trends, as well as the transformation and capital service capacity of the park's scientific research achievements.

The forum also published the Service Directory of Zhongguancun Life Science Park. This guide is a comprehensive service manual specially prepared for park enterprises.

Presently, the park is home to various service platforms, including industrial research, innovation and entrepreneurship and financial service platforms, as well as three-dimensional multisource research and industrial service systems, which provide a full range of services for the park’s scientific research institutions and enterprises.

In addition, the park will strengthen its weak links, optimize and upgrade in the following ways:

First, actively promote the planning and construction of a 4.7 square kilometer extended zone that will improve supporting residential, cultural and commercial facilities.

Secondly, introduce the Beijing Research Center for Brain Sciences and Brain-inspired Intelligence, the Institute for Precision Medicine and Health of Beijing University of Science and Technology and other key projects to attract and gather more R&D institutions in the life sciences field.

Thirdly, build an innovation and entrepreneurship service center in the park. Stationed in the park to add to the center’s services on a one-stop basis would be relevant bureaus and departments of Changping district.

The fourth is to build international business incubators in Boston and Silicon Valley.

The fifth is to hold international exchange activities such as the MIT International Roadshow Summit and the Israel Weizmann Institute cooperation seminar, and continuously improve the park's degree of internationalization.

The sixth is to co-establish a clinical research and transformation cooperation platform in the Life Science Park with the Chinese Research Hospital Association to explore effective shared use of clinical resources by enterprises and research institutions.

The seventh is to pay close attention to the construction of the medical science and technology center, the conference center, and health and technology center to further improve infrastructure and offer research institutions and enterprises such comprehensive corresponding services as R&D and office and residential space.

The Industrial Development Forum of Zhongguancun Life Science Park also included two parallel sub-forums: a life science metrology sub-forum sponsored by the China Institute of Metrology and a roadshow of some of its innovative projects. The roadshow enabled a number of companies to conduct in-depth exchanges with over 50 financial services institutions.
