Cui Tian, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) from Northeast China's Jilin province, submitted a proposal on applying big data technology to managing college physical education courses, according to local reports.

Cui said the basic task of universities and colleges was training professionals, which was like a chain, but their physical education was the most overlooked area in education.

He said his survey showed that in recent years, the health indicators of adolescents had shown a downward trend and other disturbing trends had gradually emerged, such as frailty, weak willpower, insufficient work continuity and low work efficiency.

Physical education in junior schools and physical education in colleges and universities operate under different systems which are not interconnected. Cui said that as a result, colleges and universities don't have adequate information to assess the levels of sports training of students before entering tertiary education. This, he said, will affect the settings of college physical education courses and the effects of physical education.

Cui called for the application of big data technology to connect the physical education system in primary and secondary schools, as well as in colleges and universities, so that students can be provided with physical education according to their own situation.

In addition, the CPPCC member also suggested the application of big data technology in the management of sports venues and equipment, as well as establishing a scientific curriculum assessment and evaluation system.
