Dragon boat races held in Changchun

The ninth Jingyuetan dragon boat race is held at the Jingyuatan scenic area in Changchun, capital of Northeast China’s Jilin province, on June 7, to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival. The festival, celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month in the Chinese lunar calendar each year, fell on June 7 this year. [Photo/IC]

Initiated in 2011, the Jingyuatan dragon boat race has been held nine times, with the participation of 19 teams from across the city, with each team consisting of 20 members.

This year the team from Changchun Guanghua University won the title.

The activity aims to promote traditional Chinese culture to people, and encourage more residents to participate in the sport of dragon boat racing to keep healthy, according to the organizers.
