A meeting to boost cooperation between Northeast China’s Jilin province and France was recently successfully convened in Beijing.

Attendees at the meeting included Bayanqolu, Party chief of Jilin province; Jing Junhai, governor of Jilin province; and Jean-Maurice Ripert, France's ambassador to China, as well as representatives from industrial and commercial departments and companies from both sides.

This year marks the 55th anniversary of Sino-French diplomatic relations, and Jilin, which is an important province involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, is an excellent place to invest in, according to Bayanqolu.

China is providing strong support for the province for its revitalization, and Jilin itself is also accelerating its industrial upgrading, with the focus on areas such as technological innovation and development of the digital economy, he added.

The province is currently looking for more opportunities to work with French companies, and to do so is providing more preferential policies and better services for French companies and investors to invest and start businesses there, the Party chief added.

Ambassador Ripert said he expected increased bilateral cooperation in fields such as technological innovation, modern agriculture, tourism and trade, in the push for mutual development.

Representatives from related departments and companies from both sides signed five preliminary cooperation agreements during the event.
