A meeting regarding Changchun and Changchun New Area’s efforts to attract skilled professionals was held in Changchun, Northeast China’s Jilin province, on March 6.

Attendees discussed the achievements of 2018, before setting ambitious goals for this year –– aiming to ensure that the city can attract people with the right skills to power the local economy.

Over the past year, Changchun New Area invested 125 million yuan ($18.64 million) in initiatives related to skilled professionals, such as attracting and incubating more than 400 projects and introducing over 9,000 workers with advanced skills.

The area also set up five offices for academicians and experts in various fields, bringing the total number of offices to 13. And 200 apartments were built and set aside specifically for workers with in-demand skills, with 90 already occupied.

In addition, a total of 900 professionals have received provincial and municipal financial support totaling 27.9 million yuan.

For 2019, the area will put more focus on promoting service and innovation-driven development, improving the systems for introducing and training skilled professionals, and attracting innovative and entrepreneurial workers, in order to help boost the province’s economy.

It is expected that in 2019, the area will introduce more than 7,000 skilled professionals holding a bachelor’s degree or above, with investment of 200 million yuan.
