Green is the new black in the glamorous world of fashion as a growing number of fashion designers source fabrics made from organic cotton and measure their greenhouse emissions.

In a bid to raise awareness about environmentally sustainable fashion, a fashion show will be held at Sydney's Walsh Bay on Friday, featuring designs by high profile designers including Akira Isogawa, Camilla and Gorman.

It is an initiative being run by Green Pages, a Sydney-based company that provides a directory of environmentally sustainable firms. The company will also use the event to launch its Green Pages eco-directory.

It hopes to encourage more fashion designers to adopt an accredited environmental standard, such as those devised by independent industry body Good Environmental Choice Australia.

Green Pages chief executive Katie Patrick said she would like clothes for sale to be tagged with a star rating, such as those found on electrical appliances.
