DAYTON, Ohio - Looking for fast beauty tips? Former New York Times Magazine fashion editor Rona Berg offers 1,000 in her aptly named book "Fast Beauty: 1,000 Quick Fixes" (Workman, $12.95).

Here are a few tips from Berg's book:

Flat hair after 4 p.m.: Spray salt water in your hair to reactivate the products in your hair and to thicken .

Dry hair: Seek out hydrating hair treatments and hair masks containing ingredients that end in "amine," which indicates amino acid.

Bone dry hair: Apply conditioner to wet or dry hair. Cover it with a plastic cap for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse and style as usual.

Split ends: Until you can get ends clipped, Berg suggests applying a smoothing serum through the ends of your hair. Seal ends with a cool blast from your hair dryer.

Stained nails: Soak them in the juice of one lemon and water. Or, dip a sponge or loofah in white wine vinegar and scrub.

Ashy skin: To restore your natural glow, brush your skin with a natural bristle brush before entering the shower. Moisturize with a lotion containing glycerin.

Sweaty feet: Wear natural fiber soaks. Go barefoot or wear open-toe sandals to let your feet breathe. To decrease perspiration, soak your feet in cool water and apple cider vinegar.

Loose skin: To tighten your skin temporarily, apply tomato juice -- preferably from a fresh tomato -- to your clean face for 10 minutes. Rinse with cool water.
