Fit for an emperor

Qutaste, or Quan Pin Mansion, is a high-end restaurant located in a former Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) emperor's former residence.

Customers are served in 10 private rooms, which accommodate four to 12. The courtyard is glass-covered.

A la carte comes at a minimum of 388 yuan ($59) a person. Groups can order set meals at 588 yuan, 888 yuan or 1,188 yuan a head.

The pricier set meals feature a main course called "China treasure ding", which is served in a ding, an ancient three-legged cooking vessel made of jade. The dish features eight types of seafood and "mountain treasures". These include abalone, sea cucumber, shark fin and fish maw served in a slow-boiled broth made from chicken, duck and ham.

The eatery prepares dishes according to the number of customers. For four people, for example, the restaurant arranges four appetizers - one main, three side courses, a seasonal vegetable and two staples.

Appetizers include black fungus with onion slices, deep-fried peanuts in vinegar, preserved duck yolks in pork rings and braised beef slices. For mains, try sauted shrimp with broad beans, braised beef with chestnuts, crispy roast chicken and fried squid slices with spicy sauce.

Dishes are beautifully presented and service is attentive. It's an ideal place to make an impression on business partners.
