Hong Kong director Gordon Chan is working on a follow-up to his 2008 horror-romance film "Painted Skin" ("Hua Pi"), Beijing Evening News reports.

The new film, "Wall Paintings" ("Hua Bi"), has two young men seeking shelter from the rain in a dilapidated temple and being attracted there to two beautiful women who turn out to be a fox and a snake in human form.

Actress Yan Ni, the heroine of Zhang Yimou's "A Simple Noodle Story" ("Sanqiang Pai'an Jingqi"), stars as the fox. Other cast members are yet to be announced.

The film is loosely based on a chapter from the 17th-century novel "Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio" ("Liao Zhai Zhi Yi"), a collection of supernatural tales written by Pu Songling. "Painted Skin" was also inspired by a chapter in the same novel.
