It's an open secret in Taipei that bookstores are among the best places to meet a member of the opposite sex - or even a member of the same sex. The 24-hour Eslite store on Dunhua Lu is justly famous for being a romantic hotspot.

Enter singer Eagle Pan, who according to Sohu.com was spotted kissing a foreign woman among the shelves of an unnamed Taipei bookstore recently. It appears reading was the last thing on the 41-year-old singer's mind as she then put her hand down her paramour's pants, before exiting with her conquest in tow, presumably to carry on heavy petting somewhere less public.

Though Pan has never admitted to being a bit of a tomboy it is an open secret in entertainment circles. Pan's agent, however, put a different spin on the star's actions by saying that this type of intimate behavior was quite normal among foreign women.

Who knew that?

Also in Taiwan, Jolin Tsai's parents are said to be separated and about to divorce. The diva's father failed to show up for the family's Chinese New Year dinner earlier this year and was also absent when Jolin's sister Jo was married recently.

Inevitably these rumors have attracted paparazzi like a magnet and they have been camping outside the family's home. They caught Jolin's mother and demanded to know whether the rumors were true. Determined to put an end to the speculation she claimed the couple had not separated, said her husband was upstairs and she would prove it by showing them.

The reporters were invited into the family home, trooped upstairs and, according to Msn.com, "bombarded" Jolin's father with questions. He refused to answer, which left journalists with the easy job of saying something along the lines of: "Jolin's father refuses to deny divorce claims."

Somebody else with marital problems (or not) is singer Pu Shu, who has been promoting his August concerts in Beijing and Shanghai.

He has been accused of neglecting his career for the sake of his marriage to actress Wu Xiaomin, which if he was really romantic, he would admit to.

The 35-year-old Beijing singer wed in 2005 and since then has released no new material. Even so, he insists his wife is not responsible.

"Actually, she gives me a lot of freedom. The reason I haven't released any new songs is that I haven't had anything to say," he told reporters at a press conference. He added that a new album would come out in November.

"Look at my gray hair, you can see I'm old," he joked. "I hope the new album won't let you down."

Finally, some good news for lovers of a happy ending, actress Gigi Lai has given birth to twin sisters after a Caesarian section in a Hong Kong hospital over the weekend.

The 39-year-old's husband Patrick Ma was so elated by the news he treated reporters to a meal. Asked for photos of the twins, Ma claimed: "The babies want their privacy, so I won't publicize the photos."

It's a miracle! Talking newborns!
