The king of Mandopop Jay Chou seems to be digging a hole for himself by continuing to deny he has ever had sex with a woman. The sorry situation has been unwinding ever since the mother of one of his supposed former flames, Patty Hou, claimed her daughter was a virgin.

This got the rapper Dog G freestyling on the theme that while Chou sang about love he clearly didn't know how to make love. Chou was so incensed by the bad rap he was getting that during a press conference in Taipei he called Dog G the "scum of society".

He then addressed claims from the latest skeleton to pop out of the closet, a minor-league singer called Devin Wu, who said Chou plucked her cherry as a 16 year old. Chou dismissed Wu's claims at the press conference by saying she was mad.

Another celebrity with sex problems, is Tang Wei, the star of Lust, Caution. The actress won a Golden Horse award for the steamy Ang Lee movie three years ago, but apparently the State authorities didn't enjoy the love scenes as much as everyone else.

As a result, she has been lying low in Hong Kong, studying Cantonese and English. For her new film, Crossing Hennessy, Tang takes on a comic role and was moved to say that she wants to put her past behind her.

Another actress who might like to do the same is Xu Jinglei, who this week returned from New York, where she was taking a breather after directing her new film Du Lala's Promotion and breaking up with mainland actor Huang Jue.

According to the portal Sina.com, Xu did some comfort shopping in the Big Apple but has already found solace with Taiwan singer/actor Stanley Huang, as the couple hit it off during filming, and are now an item.

Director Chen Kaige and actress Song Hye-kyo have a love-hate relationship. But mostly hate. At the beginning of last month the director called a press conference and said the South Korean would be the lead in his new movie, Orphan of Zhao Family.

Song's agent responded by saying the news was ridiculous and then poured oil on the fire by saying Chinese media reports were unbelievable. Further hostilities broke out when Tan Hong, one of the film's backers, said Song and her agent were liars, claiming the actress had traveled to China on numerous occasions and was practically begging for the part.

"Who did we meet if it was not her? A clone?" Tan was quoted as saying on the website Xinmin.cn.

The City of Fantasies was Guo Jingming's first book, and the title seems apt. The country's richest writer was pictured in the front row at Dior's Paris Fashion Week show and he has been telling anyone who will listen that he is a good pal of John Galliano. He said in a Netease interview the designer was enlisting his advice on fashion in China.

Guo was famously called "a pop idol whose cross-dressing, image-obsessed persona has made him a sensation", by the New York Times.
