TCM doctor sells lethal medicine

A traditional Chinese medicine doctor surnamed Wang with more than 20 years of experience has been charged with the accidental murder of two patients, the Beijing Times reported yesterday.

Wang bought plasters and other traditional Chinese forms of medicine from an unlicensed vendor surnamed Zhao in April 2009. He sold them on to two patients surnamed Liu and Li in May, but they died shortly afterwards. Tests confirmed that the plasters contained lethal doses of arsenic.

Five more blamed for CCTV fire

Chaoyang district officials said five suspects from the Beijing municipal commission of housing and urban-rural development and the Beijing administration of quality supervision will join the group of those charged with causing the February 2009 CCTV fire, the Beijing Times reported yesterday.

The five suspects were being investigated for negligence of their supervision duties.

Woman aborts after dog bite

A 28-year-old woman, who purposely aborted her baby after getting bitten by a dog, will sue the animal's owner, the Niulanshan tribunal of Shunyi district court said yesterday.

The woman surnamed Wu said she was bitten on her way to work on Aug 17, 2009. The dog's owner took Wu to hospital and paid her medical expenses, adding another 200 yuan for other fees. However, she was asked by doctors to abort the child since the medicine was harmful to a fetus. She wants 3,300 yuan in medical costs and 10,000 yuan in psychological compensation.

The case will be heard on Jan 20.

Elderly Benz driver charged

A man surnamed Li, 73, who drove a Mercedes Benz and killed two pedestrians and injured another two in a hit-and-run accident will be charged with endangering public safety, Shunyi court said yesterday.

After injuring one passer-by with his Benz in Shunyi district, Li allegedly attempted to run escape. This triggered a series of accidents that killed two more and injured another one. Li turned himself in afterwards.

Stem cell donation to Taiwan

A woman surnamed Han with the Red Cross Society of China has donated her bone marrow to a Taiwanese leukemia patient, the Beijing Times reported yesterday.

Han was the only match in the list of one million donors on the Chinese marrow donor program. She was in good shape after the bone marrow collection and should be discharged from the Beijing hospital soon. Han was the 9th person to donate Hematopoietic stem cells to Taiwan patients.

Underground road planned

An underground road from Dongdan to the Lama Temple will be constructed, Dongcheng district Party Secretary Yang Liuyin said Wednesday. Yang said a total of 8 sq km of space has been surveyed and the road is hoped to ease the traffic in the populated district.

Three murderers executed

A murderer of four was executed yesterday after approval from the Supreme People's Court, the Beijing No 2 Intermediate Court said.

The case referred to a 40-year-old migrant worker who was refused sex with his girlfriend and then beat the woman and her three children on March 15, 2008. During the attack he knocking into the stove and accidentally started a fire that killed the family. And two criminals who robbed and killed taxi drivers were also executed.
