"Match point," the new line of French brand Lacoste's 2010 spring and summer collection, is inspired by the works of French photographer and painter Jacques Henri Lartigue. He shot to fame in the 1920s when he photographed many famous sports events and sold his works to sporting magazines, such as La Vie au Grand Air.

Lartigue's black-and-white photos captured a generation whose life was simple, sporty and chic.

Lacoste's creative director Christophe Lemaire has tried to recreate the look, using straight lines and simple colors.

Lemaire adds big sunglasses, scarves and loose pants to the line that is still heavy on short skirts, ankle-high shoes and polo shirts favored by tennis players.

For women, there is also a hooded mini-shirt dress, a must-have for a summer night out, while men get a monotone look - jacket, shirt, pants, belt and even slip-on shoes, all in blue denim.

Lemaire admits he likes old movies and music, but his favorites are those of the 1970s. He says he has saved all the Depeche Mode and Marie Claire magazines published then.
