Savor 'the sweet life'

Set up in 2003, La Dolce Vita (甜蜜生活意大利餐厅) is the fusion of two Chinese students studying in Italy, and an Italian master chef. Over the years it has been favored by expats in Beijing. Business has been affected by the global economic crisis, but the eatery remains a comfortable place to dine on some delicious and authentic Italian cuisine.

Chef Piero Colucci has been introducing new foodstuffs and trying to attract more customers with healthy, nutritious food, while remaining authentically Italian.

Two such dishes are pasta with flatfish and pumpkin (大比目鱼南瓜意粉), and beef cappacio with mushroom sauce. All dishes are prepared with high quality olive oil (切片小牛肉配汁).

Appetizers and salads are consistently good. Beef and seafood, matched with the restaurant's good house wines, are another popular choice. The restaurant's tiramisu is one of the city's smoothest. Expresso and dessert wines here are both winners.

Other recommended dishes are roast Tuscan-style beef with rosemary (托斯卡纳式牛排), stewed rice with prawn and asparagus (海虾芦笋烩饭), La Dolce Vita pizza (甜蜜生活匹萨) and octopus potato salad (章鱼土豆沙拉).

The average bill is 150 yuan per person, excluding wine. The restaurant offers a four-course lunch at around 160 yuan per person.
