Most men 'don't wash hands in toilets'
(Agencies)
Updated: 2009-10-16 09:33 More than two thirds of men do not wash their hands with soap after using the toilet, a new study suggests. Researchers from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine monitored the hygiene habits of 250,000 Britons by installing sensors at service station bathrooms, The Scotsman reports. The team has now announced that only 32% of men took the time to clean their hands with soap and water after their toilet visit, compared with 64% of women. Study leader Gaby Judah said: "It's quite shocking and disgusting so many people don't wash their hands. And with men, the number is more, we think, because they don't bother washing their hands after using a urinal. "And it's not a lack of knowledge about disease and germs that stops people from washing their hands. It's more they can't be bothered." The study has been published in the American Journal of Public Health. |
