The wife of Japan's Prime Minister Designate has said that her spirit once travelled to Venus in a UFO while she slept.

Former actress Miyuki Hatoyama, who married the leader of the Democratic Party of Japan Yukio Hatoyama in 1975, is quoted in a new book titled Most Bizarre Things I've Encountered, The Times reports.

Miyuki said: "While my body was sleeping, I think my spirit flew on a triangular-shaped UFO to Venus. It was an extremely beautiful place and was very green."

While her first husband told her that her experience was probably a dream, she added: "My current husband has a different way of thinking. He would surely say, 'Oh, that's great!'"

In past television interviews, Miyuki said that she was a friend of actor Tom Cruise from when he was Japanese in a past life, while she also claimed to "eat the sun" for nourishment every morning.

Yukio's Democratic Party of Japan was founded in 1998 and became the ruling party of the country's House of Representatives in this year's elections.
