Swansea breaks Smurf world record

The city of Swansea has broken the world record for the largest gathering of people dressed up as Smurfs.

A total of 2,510 people were in costume as the Belgian cartoon characters got together at the Oceana nightclub for the event organised by Jokers' Masquerade, Wales Online reports.

Store employee Rebecca Oatley said: "'Smurf Guinness World Record' holder has become an illustrious title.

"We knew that if we were going to break the record, we had to do it in style and 2,510 Smurfs will be a tough act to follow for any budding record breakers."

The Welsh city more than doubled the previous record of 1,253 Smurfs which was recorded by Castleblayney in County Monaghan, Ireland last year.
