A postcard bearing good wishes that was sent from Ohio to Montana has arrived 47 years after being posted.

The greeting card was discovered by insurance agent Dave Conn when he opened his mailbox. The card was sent to the box's previous renter Marion White, who died in 1988, reports AP.

Conn's investigations have led him to the belief that the card was sent in 1962 from White's friend, the late Frances Murphey, who worked as a reporter at the Akron Beacon Journal newspaper.

The card was signed "Fran", who said she "had a marvellous time in Montana".

A spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service said the postcard may have been stuck in, or lost behind, equipment.
