Couple granted divorce after wedding day split

A couple who separated on the day of their wedding banquet two years ago was granted a divorce last week.

Zhao Liang and Li Jing (not their real names), both villagers in Yongchuan district, Chongqing municipality, registered their marriage in September 2006 and held the wedding ceremony a month later.

However, the couple quarreled at the wedding banquet when Zhao's speech offended his bride's relatives.

The couple then spent their wedding night apart before working in different places.

Zhao has since called several times to ask Li to come back but she has refused each request.

Zhao filed for divorce recently and the Yongchuan District People's Court approved.
