Top hats

Fedora-style hats continue to rock the catwalks of the globe, seen at both the Gucci show in Milan and the Colcci show in Sao Paulo last month. They add a touch of class and old-world glamour to casualwear, and suit both men and women. Tip fedoras forward at a slight angle for best effect.

Dying to wear it

Dip dye and tie-dye styles are the vaguely questionable fashion trends also hot off the catwalks. For those of us who remember tie-dying the first time around, it is slightly bizarre. The new versions feature soft and unusual colour combinations, and even guys are not left out of the trend. Tie-dye is popping up in menswear, from casual at Colcci in Sao Paulo to formal at Alexander McQueen in Milan.

Something to growl about

It worked for Morrinsville fashion designer Annah Stretton in 2004, so why not Brazil? In 2004, Stretton made quite the impact at Air New Zealand Fashion Week when a model wore a taxidermied boar's head down the catwalk. An innovator before her time - it appears designers at Sao Paulo Fashion Week in June had the same wild idea.
