The Russian government has called on all warring parties around the world to observe the Olympic truce during the Winter Olympic Games.

俄罗斯政府呼吁全球冲突各方在冬季奥运会期间遵循“奥林匹克休战”传统。

Olympic Truce（奥林匹克休战）是国际奥委会（International Olympic Committee）根据古希腊（ancient Greece）共和国奥运会神圣休战的做法设计的一项国际和平活动。在古代希腊，奥运会期间，各交战城邦之间必须停战，以便各地的运动员参加比赛，各地观众也能前往观看。

奥林匹克停战活动的目的在于：发动年轻人宣扬奥林匹克理想（Mobilize youth for the promotion of the Olympic ideals），通过体育运动为冲突各方建立联系（Use sport to establish contacts between communities in conflict），为正在处于战争中的国家提供人道主义援助（Offer humanitarian support in countries at war），提供对话及和解的机会（Create a window of opportunities for dialogue and reconciliation）。
