“五一”前，在美国科学院评选出的18位外籍院士中，中国科学家“世界杂交水稻之父”袁隆平和纳米技术专家白春礼共同膺选此荣。目前，中国已有六位科学家当选为美国科学院外籍院士。

由报道可知，“杂交水稻”相应的英文表达为“hybrid rice”。在生物学词汇中，“hybrid”指“adj.&n.杂交（的）、混合（的）”，如：The hybrid from a donkey and a horse is called a mule.（驴和马交配所生的物种叫骡）；The hybrid basketball team represents two universities.（这支混合篮球队代表两个大学。）

此外，我们常说的“混血儿”也可用“hybrid”来表达。
