ASTANA - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said Wednesday government agencies should reduce spending "as much as possible" in face of domestic and international economic uncertainties.

"We must prepare ourselves for every eventualities, prevent excessive spending, prudently manage state assets," he told the first joint meeting of upper and lower chambers of Kazakhstan Parliament as lawmakers returned from summer recess.

Although the global financial crisis is waning, the world's economy is still confronting many uncertainties, he added.

Both the parliament and the government should use effective mechanisms to control spending, said the president.

With careful planning, many public projects would need less funding, he said, adding the government "should be thrifty to save money for sustainable development of economy."
