Dalian overview

Located in the east coast of Eurasia Continent, and the southern tip of the Eastern Liaoning Peninsula, with Bohai in its northwest, Huanghai in the southeast, Dalian consists of 260 islands of different sizes. One of the 14 coastal cities nationwide, Dalian serves as an important port in the province of Liaoning. As an international center for airlines, logistics and regional finance in Northeast Asia, it is also the main port in northeast China that is opened to the outside world.

With a total area of 13.8 thousand square kilometers, Dalian has a population of 613million. There are 10 municipalities and counties, as well as 5 contributed areas that are opened to the outside world. Dalian’s economy is ever increasing. In was estimated in 2009, that its local GDP reached 441 billion, an increase of 15%, surpassing the predicted rate by 1%.Its recorded local fiscal revenue was 400.2 million, surpassing it by 18%. It also exceeded the industrial added value by 17.5% with 173.3billion.The total investments in fixed assets was 327.3billion, a rate which increased by 30%.With USD 40.3 billion as its international trade, the discretionary income for the dwellers from urban and rural areas per capita was 19, 090 RMB, with an increase rate of 9%; net income for the farmers per capita was 11, 190 RMB, increasing 14%.Besides, GDP for the city dwellers per capita was73134 RMB (USD10, 708).By October 2009, there were 13521 foreign-invested companies, in which 4, 608 were starting businesses. By the end of December 2008, 33.14 billion foreign currencies were used and the registered capital was USD 54.56 billion. Currently, big enterprises such as Fortune 500’s Intel and Starbucks in America, Germany’s Volkswagen and Bosch GROUP, Japan’s Toshiba and Panasonic, Korea’s LG and STX and Britain’s Telecom are investing in Dalian.

Dalian, with its beautiful scenery and pleasant environment, is a famous summer resort and is a popular tourist destination in China. The city is backed by mountains and faces the sea. It is neither extremely cold in winter, nor is it unbearably hot in summer. Its yearly temperature averages 10 Celcius degree and its annual e rainfall averages about 700 mm; its frost-free period lasts six months. Being awarded as the first “Excellent Tourist Destination” in China, Dalian boasts both abundant cultural tourism and many beautiful sceneries.The four scenic spots here in Dalian are as follows: the Southern Coastal Scenic Spots, Lvshun Landscaped Area, Jinshitan Scenic Area and Bingyu Scenic Zone.Annual events such as the International Garments Show, Chinese Festival Fireworks Fairs, International Marathon integrates finance,culture,and tourism, bringing vitality and opportunities to the city’s developments.

Because of its infrastructure,the beautification and protected environment, Dalian is honored by UN(United Nations) as “The Most Habitable City” , “The Advanced Afforestation City”, “Garden City Nationwide” and other awards successively. It was also awarded a “Human Habitat Award” by China Ministry of Construction.The UN granted Dalian as “The Best City for Ecological Security”. About 42% of the city is covered in greenery.
