CE 'saddened' by death of Tao Ho

Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor on Saturday expressed sorrow over the death of renowned architect Tao Ho, who had made significant contributions to the design of the regional flag and emblem of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

"A distinguished architect held in high regard in his sector, Dr Ho's name and works are world renowned," Lam said.

"I was grieved to learn of Ho's passing. On behalf of the HKSAR government, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to his family," she added.

Ho, who was one of the founders of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, died in Hong Kong on Friday. He was 82.

Born in Shanghai in 1936, Ho moved to Hong Kong with his family in 1941. He earned a master's degree in architecture in 1964 at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design.

He founded Taoho Design - a multidisciplinary studio - in 1968.
