The ballet season in Hong Kong rounds off to a close this weekend with a triple treat of very different one-act contemporary dance performances created by three well-known choreographers. First up is Rush created by Christopher Wheeldon, artistic associate for the Royal Ballet. Making its Asian premiere, this fittingly fast and dynamic piece is performed to the tune of the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu. The pace gets playful with Le Carnaval des Animaux, a piece showcasing the troupe's technical abilities. It was created by Alexei Ratmansky, former artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet who is now artist-in-residence with the American Ballet Theatre. Finally, the Beatles are at the center of A Day in the Life by US choreographer and photographer Trey McIntyre. The dancers of Hong Kong Ballet are expected to re-create the vibes of 12 classic Beatles songs all over again.
