MERS project gets HK$46.7m grant

University Grants Committee (UGC) has decided to grant HK$46.7 million to a project researching the molecular basis for interspecies transmission and pathogenesis of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus. Four universities - City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Chinese University of Hong Kong and University of Hong Kong - will participate in the project, one of the five projects receiving funding through the fifth round of UGC's theme-based research scheme.

Court grants Civic Party member JR

The High Court granted Civic Party member Tsang Kin-chiu leave on Monday for a judicial review that may force police to release the names of seven police officers who allegedly beat Tsang during the "Occupy Central" protests last year. Judge Au Hing-cheung said that there was a need to discuss whether police had a responsibility to disclose the identities of the suspects to the victim.
