A Hong Kong Airlines airplane from Shanghai to Hong Kong broke down when it arrived at the Hong Kong International Airport at about 11:30 am on Friday.

It stopped between the north runway and the taxi way. The north runway had to be closed for about two hours. Only the south runway remained open.

Hong Kong Airlines said the plane stopped at the runway due to some mechanical problems. Fire rigs and vehicles from the Civil Aviation Department stood by.

More than 260 passengers and aircrew were uninjured. The north runway resumed operation at about 1:30 pm.

Affected both by the typhoon and the closure of the north runway, about 200 flights were delayed or cancelled. At 2 pm, 97 arrivals and 81 departures were delayed, while 11 arrivals and eight departures were cancelled.
