Escalator links have become a popular mode of public transportation in Hong Kong since the completion of the Central Mid-Levels escalator two decades ago. Similar links are planned at 20 other locations in the city, but critics are up in arms, saying the peaceful ambiance in neighborhoods is being destroyed by increased property development, restaurants and noisy bars.
