Certificates for baby delivery
The Department of Health will start distributing its Certificates on Confirmed Antenatal and Delivery Booking to private hospitals and doctors next week.
In making the announcement on Thursday, Secretary for Food and Health York Chow Yat-ngok said the measure aims to deal with an increasing number of mainland women giving birth in local hospitals.
The government had announced earlier that the department will issue a standard certificate to confirm bookings of maternity beds and as proof of entry to public and private hospitals.
Chow said the certificate will carry personal information of the pregnant women, names and contact numbers of their obstetricians and other details that will help the department and police to follow up.
As for allegations of impersonators deceiving doctors into giving out proofs of pregnancy, Chow said the Hospital Authority will study the procedures of maternity bed bookings and plug any possible loopholes.
