Wrong test cited in baby scalding
A panel investigating the scalding of a baby in bath water at Princess Margaret Hospital believes the nurse tested the water temperature with the palm of her hand, rather than her elbow , as instructed in the hospital guideline.
C. K. Li, who chaired the panel, explained at a press briefing Thursday that it's possible that an adult touching the water at 45 degrees Celsius would not find it too hot, though a baby soaked in the water could suffer scalding because of its tender skin.
The father of the 3-month-old boy, who suffered a 14 percent burn when he was bathed on April 9, was not satisfied with the panel's report. He questioned the nurse's claim that the baby didn't struggle or cry during the bath.
Police smash credit-card ring
Police have dismantled a credit card forgery racket that stole card information from foreign countries and used forged cards to make purchases in Hong Kong.
Seven Hong Kong residents aged between 30 and 40, including the alleged mastermind of the syndicate, were arrested. HK$130,000 worth of goods and 100 counterfeit cards were seized.
Police said the alleged fraudsters had credit cards forged on the mainland and profited from re-selling the goods they bought with the forged cards. But there's no evidence that the racket is connected with the recent suspected installation of a card-reader at an HSBC ATM.
