"The Ministry of the Interior" (MOI) will formulate a package of regulations within three months, requiring that information on real estate transactions be published regularly, as part of the government's efforts to curb rising housing prices, "Interior Minister" Jiang Yi-huah said Monday.
Jiang said at a legislative session that his "ministry" is mapping out complementary measures and enforcement rules and will submit the proposal to the Executive Yuan within three months.
The regulations will be put into force in six months if there is no need to amend related laws, said Jiang in response to a call by ruling Kuomintang legislator Lai Shyh-bao's call for the MOI to make housing transaction data more transparent.
The exorbitant price of housing units in urban areas was listed as one of the public's top 10 complaints last year in a poll, Lai noted.
The Legislative Yuan passed a resolution last year, requesting that the MOI and the Financial Supervisory Commission regularly publish the prices paid for housing units around the country, in order to prevent inflated valuations by private institutions and consequently higher market prices.
