HONG KONG: The wounding case of political activist Gavin Kwai Sze-kit allegedly in an attack by his 26-year-old girlfriend has been adjourned until February following her appearance in a court yesterday.

After entering no plea to a charge of wounding with intent during her appearance at the Eastern Magistrates' Court, Wong Hoi-yin was released on HK$50,000 bail and was ordered not to enter any premises occupied or used by Kwai.

Kwai, a member of the League of Social Democrats, is recovering in the intensive care ward at Queen Mary Hospital after suffering a deep stab wound to his chest.

Kwai was initially admitted to Ruttonjee Hospital for wounds to his chest, jaw and left hand.

He was later transferred to the intensive care unit of Queen Mary Hospital where he was later upgraded to stable condition Sunday evening.

Prior to the attack, Wong had just been released on bail after allegedly lodging a false report of a fire in a Wan Chai bar following an argument with Kwai.

Kwai reportedly had attempted to end his relationship with Wong Saturday evening according to reports.

Distraught, Wong went to a bar in Yiu Wa Street in Causeway Bay just after 3 am and after a few drinks smashed some glasses before making her report to police.

Following her arrest for damaging property and making a false report, Wong was released on bail. She turned up at Kwai's flat on Hysan Avenue.

Kwai's mother called police around 9 am Sunday morning reporting an argument between her son and Wong, who allegedly held a kitchen knife confronting Kwai.

Kwai was defeated by Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong's Jacqueline Chung Ka-man in the June 2009 Wan Chai District Council by-election.
