Judge in Nina Wang probate threatened

The High Court Judge who must decide who will inherit the estate of Asia's wealthiest woman has received a threat through the mail. Justice Johnson Lam Man-hon is to rule in September whether the estate of Nina Wang will be awarded to the Chinachem Charitable Foundation or to fung shui practitioner Tony Chan. The letter reportedly was signed by Chan Chun-chuen. Tony Chan's law firm Haldanes issued a statement, saying "We have received a copy of the letter from the Judge's clerk. The letter has nothing to do with us nor our client." The Judiciary presented the letter to the police for investigation.

Population inches past 7 million

The provisional estimate of Hong Kong's population was established at 7,008,300 at mid-year. That represents a population increase of 30,600, 0.4 percent over mid-2008, the Census and Statistics Department said. Births and inflow of One-way Permit holders were important constituents of the overall population increase.
