Mui's mom awarded increased allowance
The mother of late pop diva Anita Mui has been given an allowance increase of HK$30,000 a month. Tam Mei-kam applied to the court to have her monthly allotment increased from HK$120,000 to HK$160,000, saying she needs to pay HK$65,000 litigation fees and HK$10,000 on credit cards. The court allowed the extra HK$30,000 to be given to her each month, stipulating that the money be used to settle Tam's debt. The court expressed concern that Tam may be unable to resist the temptation to spend. Tam said in her petition that she spends HK$10,000 on social gatherings. The court cautioned her not to pay bills for her friends and relatives. Tam earlier lost her court battle to be named heir to her daughter's estate.
