Clinton, Yao and AIDS expert to get honorary degrees
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) announced yesterday that it will present honorary doctoral degrees to former US President Bill Clinton, world-renowned HIV/AIDS expert David Ho and basketball superstar Yao Ming.
HKU said the three have all done a lot for worldwide HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment and deserve recognition for their great contributions.
Teen arrested for driving death in Sha Tin yesterday
A 19-year-old van driver was arrested yesterday for dangerous driving causing death after his van allegedly hit two road workers in Sha Tin, killing one of them.
At about 2 pm yesterday, the van was traveling along the Shing Mun Tunnel toward Tsuen Wan. At the toll plaza, it struck two men, aged 54 and 55, who were working in the left lane.
The two were sent to Yan Chai Hospital, where the older man died at 2:43 pm.
Man, 77, hospitalized for flesh-eating disease
The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed a case of necrotizing fasciitis, or flesh-eating disease, involving a 77-year-old man from Wong Tai Sin, Kowloon East.
He injured his left hand while preparing a fish dinner at home. On Nov 2, his hand grew swollen and he developed a fever. He was admitted to United Christian Hospital that day and is now in the intensive care unit in serious condition.
