City grabs eight medals at Asian Beach Games
Hong Kong athletes won eight medals, including three golds, in the first Asian Beach Games held in Indonesia Oct 18-26.
Natasha Tang won gold in women's 5-km marathon swimming and a bronze in the 10-km competition. Windsurfer Cheng Kwok-fai won a gold medal, while his teammates Ho Chi-ho and Chan Wai-kei scored silver medals. Daniel Lee and Andrew Wright won gold and bronze in the triathlon respectively. The sailing team grabbed silver in the Hobie 16 event.
HK, Spain sign wine business pact
Hong Kong and Spain have signed a memorandum of understanding to boost wine-related businesses co-operation between the two jurisdictions.
The document, signed in Madrid, covers six areas - promotion of trading in wine and related food items, holding international wine-related meetings or events in Hong Kong, investment promotion, education and manpower training, promotion of wine-related tourism and wine culture, as well as customs co-operation against counterfeit wine.
Five arrested in Yuen Long drug seizure
The Police said yesterday they had arrested five men after officers uncovered 180 kg of illicit drugs worth about HK$36 million in a warehouse in Yuen Long Monday.
Police officers found 162 kg of cannabis, 17 kg of methamphetamine and 10,000 "ecstasy" tablets hidden inside several sofas in a container Monday morning while searching the storage facility on Kung Um Road, Yuen Long.
All but one 43-year-old man have been released on bail. The man was still held in police custody yesterday for further investigation.
Blueprint a priority for cultural hub authority
The priority of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority is to prepare a blueprint for the district, said the authority's board chairman Henry Tang after its first meeting yesterday.
After consulting the arts and cultural sector, the authority will come up with three conceptual development options for public consultation, he said.
The facilities of the district should blend into the neighborhood and have good connectivity, he stressed.
