Five Olympic ticket scalpers arrested

The police said yesterday it had pressed charges against five men and women in the past two days for unauthorized sale of tickets for the Beijing Olympic equestrian events online. A total of 42 tickets have been confiscated so far.

The police, posing as potential buyers, contacted the five online and made the arrests separately in Lam Tin, Central, Tsing Yi, Kowloon Tong and Mong Kok Tuesday and yesterday.

The authorities said they are keeping a close watch on illegal sales of Olympic tickets and will strictly enforce the law.

Imported case of dengue fever confirmed

A 48-year-old man was diagnosed with dengue fever yesterday, taking the total number of dengue fever cases this year so far to 19.

The man started developing symptoms of dengue fever last Thursday and visited a doctor.

The patient told the doctor that he had just been back from Malaysia.

The man's family members did not display any of the symptoms.

The Department of Health called on the public to be on guard against mosquito bites, especially when they travel to tropical or sub-tropical regions.

Last chance for adopting previous helpers' wage

A government spokesperson said the end date of the grace period for employers of foreign domestic helpers to submit employment contracts made according to the previous minimum wage of HK$3,480 would be extended from yesterday to today because the Immigration Department was closed when the No 8 storm signal was in force.

It was announced on July 9

that the minimum wage would

be raised to HK$3,580 a month

and would apply to contracts signed on or after July 10.
