Govt IT security policies to be reviewed

Government IT security policies and practices will be reviewed in the wake of recent data loss incidents.

Government Chief Information Officer Jeremy Godfrey yesterday told lawmakers the review will address whether any changes are needed to the policies, whether change is needed to mechanisms assuring the policies are fully implemented, and what else needs to be done to ensure a high level of compliance, including improved communication, training and investment in departmental IT systems and networks.

FEHD launches anti-rodent drive

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) has launched the 12-week enhancement phase of an anti-rodent campaign.

Target areas include markets, fixed pitch hawker stalls, hawker bazaars, food premises and associated rear lanes, and cargo-handling areas.

The department will carry out rodent surveys and disinfestations in target areas' public places and problematic spots, set up poisonous baiting stations and rodent cage traps, and enhance cleaning services to eliminate rodent harborages.

Advisory committee studies bus fare rises

The Transport Advisory Committee has discussed applications for bus fare rises and will table its recommendations to the government soon.

Chairman Teresa Cheng said recommendations will be made according to each operator's individual situation to ensure service quality and encourage them to upgrade services.

The committee yesterday discussed applications from Kowloon Motor Bus, Long Win Bus, New Lantao Bus, Citybus and New World First Bus.

53 arrested over bribery charges

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has arrested 53 people from the food and beverage industry for allegedly offering or taking bribes.

The suspects included 46 chefs and a purchasing manager from a number of local restaurants. Some of the suspects allegedly offered cash bribes to restaurant employees so that they will purchase food items from certain suppliers or settle their payments sooner.
