| The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was established in 1947. It is located in the country's north, with Mongolia and Russia to its north border. It is the third-largest subdivision of China spanning about 1,200,000 km² (463,000 sq mi) or 12% of China's land area. It has a population of over 24 million as of 2008. The capital is Hohhot. The majority of the population in the region are Han Chinese, with a substantial Mongol minority. The official languages are Standard Mandarin and Mongolian, the latter written in the classical alphabet. |
内蒙古自治区简称内蒙古，1947年5月1日成立，是我国成立最早的少数民族自治区。内蒙古位于中国北部边疆，西北紧邻蒙古和俄罗斯。总面积为118.3万平方千米，全国第3位，仅次于新疆和西藏。2008年末全区常住人口2413.73万人。首府呼和浩特市。全境以高原为主，多数地区在海拔1000米以上，通称内蒙古高原。东部草原辽阔，西部沙漠广布。因地域辽阔，各地差异较大；多数地区四季分明；夏短冬长，较为干冷。年均气温一1～10摄氏度；全年降水量约50～450毫米。已探明矿藏60余种，稀土、煤、银等储量巨大。 |
