Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is briefly named as Inner Mongolia with Hohhot as its capital city. Inner Mongolia is one of the steel and coal production bases in the country, with forestry, processing of agricultural and livestock products, electricity, machinery-making also occupying important positions. Agriculture is well-developed in the region, making it an important production base for commodity grain, oil, sugar and animal husbandry. The overall production capacity of animal husbandry ranks first in China. Tertiary industry and private economies are growing rapidly.

In 2008, the total GDP for Inner Mongolia is expected to amount to 1.162 trillion yuan.
