David Arquette discussed split with daughter

David Arquette took his daughter to the beach to explain his marriage problems.

The actor and his wife Courteney Cox-Arquette - who announced on Monday (11.10.10) that they had embarked on a trial separation "some time" ago - wanted to be honest with six-year-old Coco about their split so went for a picnic to discuss the situation.

David told Sirius Satellite Radio DJ Howard Stern: "We went to a beach and had a picnic. I explained to her that we're grown-ups, and a lot of the time when grown-ups are growing up, they need to figure out their lives. Sometimes that takes each other having a little space."

The 'Scream' star then had to reassure the youngster the separation was not necessarily forever.

He explained: "She said, 'Are you guys getting a divorce?' I said, 'No, We're not getting a divorce, we're just taking some time apart to get to know ourselves better and get to know what we want better.' "

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed Courteney, 46, and 39-year-old David will continue to work together producing the actress' hit TV show 'Cougar Town' through their company Coquette.

The actress' spokesperson said: "At this point everything remains the same."

Announcing their split after 11 years of marriage this week, the couple vowed to remain "best friends".

In a joint statement, they said: "We have agreed to a trial separation that dates back for some time. The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage. We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and we still love each other deeply."
