Jay-Z throws Liberty party for grandmother

Jay-Z threw a lavish party for his grandmother's 85th birthday.

The 'Empire State Of Mind' rapper picked up his grandmother, Hattie White, in a Rolls-Royce with his wife Beyonce Knowles, and took her over to the Liberty Warehouse, a space with great views of New York landmark the Statue of Liberty.

Once all the guests had reached the location, they were entertained by dancers from the Boys and Girls Club - a social association promoting citizenship among young people, similar to the scout movement.

Revellers were also treated to Southern American cooking.

Earlier this year, Jay took Hattie to a baseball game between the New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins.

Jay has been increasingly family orientated in recent months, and has expressed his desire to have a baby with Beyonce - who he married in 2008 - as well as announcing he has his own retirement plan, which involves going to a private island with a personal chef to smoke cigars, drink wine and get fat.

He explained: "That's what I enjoy. That's the payback for all the hard work. Beyonce will be on the island too. But I don't think she plan to get as fat as me. I'm gonna be fat!"
